Community Involvement

Ohio Mutual believes in building quality relationships, and has nurtured a mutually-beneficial partnership with the city and region that we have called home for the past century. More than half of our associates live in our home county, and we believe, as a responsible corporate citizen, that regular support of our community is the right thing to do.

In addition to the income, school district, and property taxes paid by the company and our associates, Ohio Mutual supports its community in many other tangible ways.

Community Involvement - Ohio Mutual Insurance GroupEach year, Ohio Mutual associates contribute significant funds for the local United Way – when combined with the match funds contributed by the company, we are proud to be one of the most generous contributors in the county in support of this collection of vital community service agencies.  On more than one occasion, Ohio Mutual has served as the fundraising “Pacesetter” organization for the annual United Way fundraising effort.

Associates also raise money throughout the year for the American Cancer Society, culminating with the annual local “Relay for Life.”

When the Bucyrus area suffered its worst flooding in 100 years in 2007, Ohio Mutual initiated a significant contribution to the local Salvation Army, to support that agency’s efforts to assist families who suffered as a result of the flooding.

The company has, in recent years, offered major gifts to support ambitious expansions to the local hospital and public library, and to provide significant funding toward the creation of an art park in Bucyrus.  In addition, Ohio Mutual has a history of being generous to various community organizations that contribute to the vibrant local community spirit – supporting community festivals, area schools, local high school scholarships, and regional economic development efforts.

Ohio Mutual associates collect coats each winter for needy families, and raise funds throughout the year to support various other charitable causes – including breast cancer research, domestic violence shelters, and homeless shelters.  Company executives serve as board members and leaders for a number of area charitable organizations.

In 2009, Ohio Mutual partnered with the local area chamber of commerce, business association, and other economic development organizations to help organize and underwrite the entire cost for a business development series that was designed to support and empower the community’s small businesses.

In 2010, working in cooperation with the Crawford County Education & Economic Development Partnership, the company supported creation of Crawford: 20/20 Vision, a grassroots community effort to identify, study, and address high priority community concerns and issues.  Out of that effort, a need for community leadership development was identified, which led the company in 2011 to pledge $200,000 to launch and support Crawford Unlimited Leadership (CULead), a program designed to develop and nurture the next generation of leaders in the community.  These donations were followed up in 2015 with a $100,000 contribution to support creation of the Crawford Success Center, the county's first college facility, which will bring a host of new higher education and training opportunities to Crawford County.  The company also helps fund "The Leader in Me" -- a character education program in local schools, and sponsors local fundraising activities for the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio.

We invite you to read a local news story that outlines the company's commitment to generous corporate citizenship.

In keeping with our Guiding Principles, we believe that supporting our local schools, leaders, businesspeople, and charitable service organizations is the right thing to do, and nurtures a “win-win” environment within our community.
